How do you create your fractals?
This is the question I am asked most often and it's something I am more than happy to share! The great thing about fractals is that there is more freeware out there than you would expect and while most of the applications available take a little getting used to there is also a ton of information out there to teach you how to use them. The programs I use to make my fractals are a bit of a strange combination only because I have special needs. I use a program named Apophysis to create the fractal flame file which is what you need to actually render the graphics that I have in my gallery. I save the flame files to a special directory on my file server where I have a script that monitors for these files to appear. When it gets one it does some modifications to the flame file to increase things like the size and resolution. Then with the changes to the flame file the server runs flam3-render to take that flame file and make a graphic out of it. This is much more complicated than most people need and you can easily just design the fractal and render it with Apophysis. The only reason I did it the way I did is because my server is much faster than my workstation.
I want to use your fractals in a project, what is your policy?
My fractals are covered by the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike2.5 License. Any other usage requires my written permission and for the most part I'm pretty liberal with who I'll let use my Fractals. I am a huge fan of the opensource movement and I feel that art should be the same way. Someone shouldn't be able to take my work and make money off it without my permission but if they can change what I have done make it better and build off it why should I prevent their attempt.
Where can I get one of your fractals at a higher resolution?
if you want to use one of my fractals and need it in a higher resolution than what I have on the website let me know. Often it will mean I need to re-render the fractal so please understand if it takes days for me to get back to you with the new image file. Depending on the resolution it may take my poor little computer a long time to produce your graphic.
