Red Hat Summit 2009 Day 1 – Registration and Reception

I picked up my badge and headed over to the partner pavilion to scope out the place before everything opened up. I found a few booths that looked like people I needed to connect with, made a mental note and headed upstairs to investigate the literature they handed me and map out my plan for tomorrow. Unfortunately the info we got in the flier is pretty incomplete. I have names and times but no locations or any where to go for more detail.

My mom called about my little itchy dog and we chatted for a bit about how things were going at home and how things are going here. After the phone call I left my beautiful wife and headed back down stairs to mingle with the people in the exhibit hall.

What followed is entirely my fault in retrospect. I’m not much of a drinker, and since I watch what I eat I don’t really nibble off trays so really for me this was a chance to get down to business and try to get the exhibit hall done with early. Problem is everyone else was interested in drinking, eating, and mingling and I really can’t blame them. Many people use these conferences as a business reason for a vacation and while I can understand that, it was my expectation that was out of line, not what was going on.

So I spoke with HP for a time, and with a company named Trusted Computer Solutions that has some really interesting software. Then I started  to head back to my room and was grabbed by a large group of Rackspace people and talked to them for over half an hour, they seem like a great group of people, then I headed back up to the room and the wife and I went off to grab some food before bed.

This morning I’m going to be taking the following break-out sessions:

10:50 – Kickstart Tips and Tricks
1:00 – Understanding the performance of industry standard benchmarks on RHEL
2:10 – Data Center on a Stick: The Reality of Data Center as a Service
3:20 – Red Hat Virtualization Leadership Series: Breaking Performance and scalability barriers
4:30 – SELinux for Mere Mortals

Should be a very interesting day
